Starbucks Frees the Wi-Fi!

In what might be the first of my blog requests to actually come true, Starbucks has set its Wi-Fi free.
All you have to do is buy a reloadable Starbucks card and register it at Starbucks.com.  Voila…you get up to two hours of consecutive free Wi-Fi daily at Starbucks stores, via AT&T.  No catch (that I [...]

They’re considering bankruptcy, right?  So how did they fail while Bed Bath & Beyond has not?  I mean that with all sincerity.  I really want to learn something from this: What does BB&B do right that Linens -N-Things does not?  Because I think they are very similar.
LnT posted $2.79 billion in sales last year, but [...]

Support Record Store Day!

Tomorrow, Saturday the 19th of April, is Record Store Day.  Get off your butt, log off of iTunes, get out of the house, and go buy a record!  (Album, CD, whatever floats your boat.)  I hope the link is working by the time you click on it.  At the time I posted it wasn’t working worth a darn.

Barely a footnote at the end of a Publishers Weekly column about market share for online retailers versus bricks-and-mortar booksellers was this:
“With Amazon’s growing power in book sales, it’s understandable that publishers may be a bit anxious on learning that in Amazon’s 10-k filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company lists among its [...]

B) Proudly capitalistic
C) A tad alarmed
D) Flat-out nauseous
It’s pretty amazing, no matter how you feel about Wal-Mart. One thing’s for sure, they are the retail powerhouse.

Name That Leader

I just read one of the most fascinating, disturbing articles I’ve ever read about a particular person of business fame.  I’ll say little more.  Instead, I’ve clipped from the article a big batch of quotes, facts, and opinions about this person.  Now, I only pulled the controversial, negative parts.  I didn’t make these up, and [...]

I just gained a brand new respect for Wal-Mart.  This New York Times article nearly knocked me out of my chair.
Wal-Mart buyers (aka merchants, aka merchandise managers) are openly blogging.  They are encouraged to do so.  They are blogging not only about their personal lives but about the products they choose for resale in Wal-Mart [...]
